Mantua
Mantua me genuit
Mantua is a special place, reflective and cultured, where you can get lost along with your dreams and hopes.
The great Latin poet Virgil was born here. The three lakes that surround it make it a city of water. We recommend visiting Lake Superior in July or August when thousands of lotus flowers are in bloom.
Palazzo Ducale
It has 500 frescoed and decorated rooms by artists such as Giulio Romano, Raphael and Mantegna and it is connected to numerous corridors and galleries, courtyards and gardens: it resembles a veritable city-palace extending over approximately 35,000 square metres.
Palazzo Te
Surrounded by greenery, it was conceived as a place of idleness and social life for Prince Federico II Gonzaga. Lively emotions accompany the visitor on a rich and varied itinerary, from the Courtyard of Honor to the marvelous frescoed rooms.
Palazzo della Ragione
The palace is part of that nucleus of city buildings, including Palazzo del Podestà, which arose in the Middle Ages. Now the exhibition site of the Civic Museums of Mantua.
Torre dell'Orologio
Next to the Palazzo della Ragione stands the Tower with the clock that marked the time of the people, the positions of the planets, the waxing and waning of the day, the signs of the zodiac, the phases of the moon. And not only this: it also said when to bleed, sow, go on trips, get married and other useful things.
