Montichiari is the biggest municipality of the Province of Brescia, and was denominated city since 1991. The name most probably derives by the light colour of the clay covering the soil of the small hills where the original village was founded during roman times.

It’s strategic position immediately made it a focal point for the economy of the surrounding area.  The local market – which happens every Friday since 1173 - is living proof of this.
